Lino Printed Tote Bag
Level:     Intermediate

Time needed:   1.5 hours

What you need:
  • Reeves Acrylic Paints
  • Lino Square - 30cm
  • Micador Lino Tools 6 pack
  • Micador Rubber Roller
  • Micador Mat Spray
  • Plain calico bag

What you do:

  1. Design your own template or download and print the design pictured from www.micador.com.au/mash

  2. Place your printed design face down on the lino square and spray with the Micador Mat Spray. Press the paper down firmly, then peel back and remove to reveal the transferred design.

  3. Create your stencil by cutting around the design using the lino tools. Always cut away from your body and hands, as the tools are sharp. Remember the raised, uncut areas will be what shows in your final print.

  4. Create your favourite colour by mixing the acrylic paint. Use the rubber roller to apply it to the face of your stencil.

  5. Lay your calico bag out flat. You can insert paper inside it to prevent the paint from seeping through. Place the stencil, paint side down and press the print firmly onto the fabric. Peel the square back and there is your print! Wipe off the excess paint from the stencil with a wet soapy sponge and it’s ready to re-use. You can use your stencil to print on anything, from exercise book covers to t-shirts.

Note: If you want to wash your bag, you will need to mix a textile medium into your paint before printing.
